St. Patrick’s Day, the famous feast of Ireland’s patron saint, is an opportunity to discover and taste some of the best whiskeys. Forbes offers you a selection of 17 bottles to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day as it should … and enjoy it all year round!
Katie Auth is a big name when it comes to spirits. She has worked for New York restaurants Dear Irving on Hudson, Blue Quarter and Talk Story Rooftop. She is also the founder of Katie Sips, which offers unique and personalized cocktail experiences. On the occasion of St. Patrick’s Day, Forbes asked him for his best whiskey recommendations.
“To establish this selection of whiskey, I took several elements into consideration. Given my profession as a bartender, it was important to analyze these whiskeys in general, but also in more detail, ”says Katie Auth. “So I wondered about several aspects. How does this or that whiskey mix with other spirits? How does it mix with ingredients like juices or syrups? What is the best product to taste pure? Which product is the most profitable while remaining of quality? Thanks to these questions, I was able to compile a list of my favorite whiskeys on the market. “
Reducing that list to less than 20 bottles has been a real challenge for Katie Auth. However, the barmaid has a preference for single pot still : “I like above all whiskeys with a finish. They can be a great choice for many reasons, but first and foremost, I appreciate the diversity they can bring. Nowadays, many distillers finish in barrels of rum, cognac, Oloroso sherry or beer. These different finishes all bring additional qualities to each of the whiskeys, and consequently an additional level of complexity ”.
